Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man respectfully takes inspiration from the early work of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s Spider-Man comics giving it a unqiue feel. While the animation style does take some getting past the "Archie" Peter Parker design, after a while it does prove to act as panels stripped directly out of the comic. The action in particular is spectacular in this retro art style. 

 

A modern take and reimagining of many of the key characters, as this is established early on as being a part of an alternative universe in the Multiverse. The constant changes are a whirlwind and keep the viewer on their toes - unfortunately some of the more toxic members of the fandom may not be so inclined to cheer on these updates. 

 

Truly when under the mask, this is a top-tier Spider-Man. There has never been a bad Peter Parker / Spider-Man and that continues to be the case with Hudson Thames handling the web slingers. 2x Academy Award Nominee Colman Domingo knocks the role of Norman Osborn out of the theoretical park, we see a whole other side of the character that we traditionally don’t see and that truly makes his development thrilling.

 

The entire cast is exceptional, truly making this a show not only about the stunning action, but the thoughtfully written spin on the characters. There are so many fantastic characters that appear throughout and they all make their appearances worth every second - some familiar faces from those who are well-versed in the MCU and many newcomers that only avid comic readers will recognize at first glance. A few iconic characters may be missing making the audience reconsider their expectations and be open to a number of terrific surprises ahead. 

 

If the first episode doesn’t win you over, I implore you to keep with it because with each new episode it becomes more and more spectacular. This will be a show that will be more than a little difficult to put down once it begins… if only season 2 was already upon us. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man once again seals Spider-Man as the greatest Marvel hero of all time! The farther along into the season the more engrossing the story becomes and season one becomes the most immersive Spider-Man adventure yet.
