SYNOPSIS:
Based on a remarkable true story, a mom's faith stands against all odds and inspires her husband and children to hold on to theirs.
“An uplifting true tale that fans of Christian pop icons For King + Country will gravitate towards.” UNSUNG HERO is now available to own on Blu-ray and DVD.
Premiering back in April 2024, the Lionsgate distributed picture found itself making 21.1 million off of a 6 million budget. As of 7/24, the film has achieved a 61% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 33 critical ratings and received rave reviews from the public. To coincide with the release of the film, For King + Country performed a “Homecoming” tour throughout New Zealand and Australia.
Based on a remarkable true story, Unsung Hero follows David Smallbone as he moves his family from Down Under to the States, searching for a brighter future after his successful music company collapses. With nothing more than their seven children, suitcases, and their love of music, David (for KING + COUNTRY's Joel Smallbone) and his pregnant wife Helen (Daisy Betts) set out to rebuild their lives. Helen's faith stands against all odds and inspires her husband and children to hold onto theirs. With their own dreams on hold, David and Helen begin to realize the musical prowess in their children, who would go on to become two of the most successful acts in Inspirational Music history: five-time GRAMMY Award®-winning artists for KING + COUNTRY and Rebecca St. James.
The story is engaging, albeit incredibly predictable in a film relating itself to faith. The music, while not my usual cup of tea, did strongly hold my attention and the dynamic between the family held strong throughout a story that tended to drag slightly amongst its near two hour run. It’s a story about family above anything else and faith a very close second, the messages are laid on a little heavy for a casual audience’s favor but even so its lack of polish comes across charming at times.
Featuring an expansive 54 minute interview with the Smallbone family discussing both their lives and the film depicting it. Alongside this is a feature commentary with Producers Joshua Walsh and Luke Smallbone, Co-Directors and Co-Writers Joel Smallbone and Richard L. Ramsey.
Unsung Hero is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of Lionsgate Films with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 2.39:1. A DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track heightens the consistent music that fills the blank spaces and background noises, with the dialogue being clear throughout.
