OUR MOVIE REVIEW:
Til Death Do Us Part could have been a lean, mean 20-minute film that coasted by on its concept, fun low-budget action, and passable cinematography, but instead it comes across as too full of itself by including so much padding to make it an unjustifiable 1hr50m runtime.
To start with positives, this film does have fun moments with a cast that mostly works. Natalie Burn, who plays as our bride-lead that fights tooth and nail against her adversaries, carries her scenes well with a cadence that balances the serious yet comical tone the movie seems to strive for. However, Cam Gigandet, playing the best man and main adversary for the majority of the film, is a real scene stealer that hams it up in a way that you just know he’s having fun.
In terms of negatives, I unfortunately feel the need to point out how derivative Til Death Do Us Part is. It clearly pulls inspiration from Ready Or Not (2019), having the main aesthetic be watching a woman in a wedding gown kick butt with a color palette strikingly similar, but isn’t directed or written with nearly as much craftsmanship to pull it off. I appreciate the ambition, but clearly the budget didn’t allow a lot of time for action sequences, so it seems to make up for lost screentime the creators extended every non-action sequence they could, be it two people just chatting, one person in a room just vibing, or intercutting flashbacks to an event that holds no weight to the current moment.
I would fully believe this feature was greenlit based on a 15-page proof of concept, to which the writer had to struggle on how to meet the length required to get the film produced. At the very least, it looked like people had fun making it. And if that is true, it wasn’t a waste of time to make. It’s just not worth your time to watch.
