SPEAK NO EVIL (2022) 

Speak No Evil was the last film I watched for the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and while I was constantly checking my watch due to the anxiety attacks the film brought every couple of minutes – the film may be one of the most efficient atmospheric horrors I’ve ever seen. The film is intense, brutal without utilizing violence we’re accustomed to and a bizarre narrative that unravels like a standing notice of ever-impending doom. This film is the definition of a slow burn horror and it is perfect – so much so that it’s a film that I will never return to ever again. If you Google (the correct) Speak No Evil there’s a single image that shows up to promote the film and I wish it wasn’t the one they chose – mentally being aware of that image makes the characters actions ever the more frightening no matter how mundane they may be. 

 

For those unwilling to watch a foreign film with partial English and partial subtitles – this is not the film aimed at you. Speak No Evil is a film that deserves your full attention that way once the ending creeps up and you’re left stunned – you’ll have the entire horrifying picture.
