LUCY AND DESI (2022) 

I devoured this documentary. I couldn’t get enough. I have been a super fan of Lucille Ball and the legendary I Love Lucy sitcom before I could walk or talk because I was born into it. It’s my mom’s favorite show of all time. As sad as it was to watch the downfall of Lucy and Desi’s love story, you come to realize it really never ended even though their marriage did. The highlighted funny moments of scenes and moments from Lucy’s career will make you nostalgic and yearn for a genuine belly laugh. Amy Poehler’s direction is thoughtful and delicate using Lucie Arnaz, their first born, as the strongest voice throughout the story. I learned things about Desi Arnaz that I didn’t know before. Otherwise, the film is a strong showcase of footage, photographs, and recordings from Lucy and Desi themselves from over the years. This is a perfect companion piece to Being the Ricardos (2021) and a love letter to the life of the iconic woman of television and her husband and how they changed the way we consume television for the rest of time.
