KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS SYNOPSIS:
In rural Arizona, countless killer tarantulas are migrating through a farm town, killing every living thing in their path. The town's veterinarian will do everything in his power to survive the onslaught.
A New Species Of Horror Is Born.
What scares you about nature? If I were to give a clear answer right here and no I’d say either Snakes or Spiders. So diving into a film filled with 5,0000 live tarantulas and having them be the threat of the film, killing everything in their path —- no that’s gonna start a phobia.
Kingdom of the Spiders is a B-movie from the 70s that lured William Shatner fans into its web. It’s a horror film that knows exactly what it is… to be occasionally dumb and always fun. Costing 1 million dollars to produce, the film was a box office success grossing 17 million during its theatrical run. The creatives on the project had a nightmare on set, some gaining a phobia in the process (understandably so).
The score is iconic, being made up of musical cues from Jerry Goldsmith’s numerous The Twilight Zone episodes. It’s a score that’s at times too good for the film itself, scoring a 50% critical score and a 36% audience. It's a film that’ll seriously unnerve those with even a hint of arachnophobia. The performance ranks high amongst the ranks of a solid B-movie.
Kino Cult has another charming horror from the golden age of B-horror on their hands. It’s certainly not a film most will have seen, but people that grew up with it playing on television as a kid or fans of Shatner will easily gravitate toward. With a slick reversible cover and slip, it’s one that’ll be hard to pass up for nostalgic horror collectors.
