OUR MOVIE REVIEW:
It’s What’s Inside is an inventive horror thriller with a sinister twist. A group of old friends reunite for their friend's wedding based on a promise they all made to one another in high school. Turmoil ensues as something immediately feels off between friends as they all seem to be in entirely different places in their lives.
If you have not seen the trailer… go watch this film now as blind as you can. If you have seen the trailer please continue forward…
Once everyone has arrived and the characters start to build off one another, it’s easy to see why this group is so friendly towards each other… they’re not good people. The basis of who to follow throughout is really derived from who has the best intentions in mind and that’s up for discussion. The narrative allows for each character to fully explore themselves through each other and they’re able to accomplish this through the sci-fi device of body swapping.
This cast works extremely well together, really showcasing the cracks in each other's relationships as the years have drifted them apart. This the pure definition of an ensemble piece, with one flawed piece of the cast, this film would promptly falter as it relies on the typical hardships of performing as someone else (x8). The film makes an observation of what’s off limits when you don’t have any control of your own body. It’s What’s Inside skates the lines and even crosses some into the realm of depravity.
Writer/Director Greg Jardin has created a dynamic setting for these characters' experience to take place. It’s such a unique location - a mansion of sorts with rickety structures and haunted neon lighting throughout. A nostalgia dose of the insanity from Joe Dante’s direction of "It's A Good Life” from Twilight Zone: The Movie in its execution.
It’s What’s Inside lets the viewer question each of these people’s intentions for playing this game: to have fun, to live another life in someone else’s shoes, or to cause disruption. It’s a stressful experience with no clear path to the end as more and more is unveiled. By the film’s close it’ll have you questioning what really just happened, taking a breath and wanting to dive back in for another round.
