OUR REFLECTION:
It Ends with Us is a movie based on Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name. For those who haven’t read the book or have no idea, this movie may come as a surprise. Right now, this movie can be watched on several streaming services including Netflix and Apple TV.
Retrospectively, the movie’s less about the romance triangle it seems to promise and more about Lily dealing with her past and her choices. At first, it was a harmless love story until everything slowly made sense. Lily and Ryle's chemistry is undeniable because Ryle is such a sharp, confident, and handsome guy while Lily is a beautiful lady starting fresh, all hopeful and new. But as it goes, you start picking up on these little hints—her quiet moments, the way she talks about her parents. It’s not loud, but it’s there, like something’s weighing on her she’s not saying.
Atlas coming back into the picture shifts things. It would be easier for Lily if he's just a simple old flame to create issues between her and Ryle. However, he's a link to who Lily was before, which makes viewers more curious about what she's running from. When Atlas starts joining the picture, it's when we get clarity of Lily's past.
It was not a direct storytelling of what happened. Actually, it was really brilliant how the film uses these flashbacks of her younger days with Atlas. They don’t dump the whole story on you. Instead, they let it unfold bit by bit, tying her old life to what’s happening now, which is really great because it doesn't overwhelm viewers with all the details of the movie.
When you stream this movie, please make sure that you have a fast internet connection like Hughesnet so you can really understand the story without any interruptions. It’s really crucial for you to have a stable internet connection while streaming.
In the latter part of the movie where everything starts making sense, Lily notices that she’s becoming like her mother—a victim of the same patterns she grew up watching. It’s not spelled out right away, but you feel it building. The way Ryle’s mood shifts, the way Lily starts second-guessing herself. It’s like she’s slipping into her mom’s shoes without meaning to.
Years later, that realization carries the film’s weight. Ryle’s charm doesn’t fade, but it’s overshadowed by something darker that Lily can’t ignore. And then, in the end, it’s clear: Ryle’s abusive, just like her dad was. That’s the final click, but the movie waits for it, letting Lily’s growing awareness do the work. It's like how a victim of abuse usually realizes, slowly, over time, as they make sense of the signs they didn't want to see.
This movie deserves to be watched by many people to spread awareness, so hopefully, it’ll be included in more streaming deals in the future because it’s a good movie. It’s an eye-opener that’s painful to watch because it’s happening to millions out there – stuck in cycles they can’t see until it’s too late.
It Ends with Us is a beautiful film about finding your own strength when you’re caught in something you didn’t expect. This film is one to think about because it’s telling us something we need to hear. And it may be unpleasant, but that's what makes it matter. This one’s worth the watch, not just for the story, but for what it says about breaking free.
