FOCUS SYNOPSIS:

In the midst of veteran con man Nicky's latest scheme, a woman from his past - now an accomplished femme fatale - shows up and throws his plans for a loop.​​​

After The Wolf of Wall Street, Focus was my second ever experience with the soon-to-be starlett, Margot Robbie and this film also came right in the center of a few Box Office duds for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air himself, Will Smith. So Focus, while not garnishing the best reception critically, went on to be a relative success at the box office with a 158 million gross over its 65 million budget. Now released for the first time ever on 4K UHD, Focus is set to find new life with Robbie at the height of her career and Smith marking a quiet but steady comeback after the major setback that occurred in the early 2020s. 

A stylish romantic thriller that mixed the likes of the Ocean’s franchise with something a little more shocking, the Now You See Me series of films. Focus is a feature that sadly got lost in the mix over the years and should be regarded as one of Smith’s best in this latter part of his career. From directing pair Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, two of my my favorite directors for some time having directed the criminally misunderstood I Love You Philip Morris which held one of the best Jim Carrey performances of his career and the phenomenal Crazy, Stupid, Love. which holds a place in my heart as possibly the greatest romantic comedy of all time. While Focus doesn’t quite reach those heights, it shows just how terrific this film can be with this pair of directors at the helm.
