CAN'T HARDLY WAIT SYNOPSIS:
A complete graduating class, consisting of beautiful girls, geeks and promising footballers, assemble at a rich classmate's residence for a party. Interesting developments follow at the get-together.
For the class of 1998, the last night of high school is the first night of the rest of their lives.
Can’t Hardly Wait was a film that completely flew under my radar as I discovered a number of “classic” 90s teen comedies and now after seeing it for the first time in 4K UHD… I wish I had known about it sooner. With an outrageous amount of small roles throughout that will leave you shocked with the amount of star power crammed into one 100 minute feature, there will be an absolute Rick Dalton, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood moment every other scene. What’s so fascinating about this film is just how genuine the characters feel for high schoolers and as a kid that didn’t go to High School until the late 2000s, this feels like a fever dream yet somehow realistic to how people may have acted at some schools in that particular decade.
With 6 main characters that cover the eternity of the names in the film (Preston Meyers, Amanda Beckett, Mike Dexter, William Lichter, Denise Fleming, Kenny Fisher), where the rest have names that accompany their role in the party at hand: Girl Whose Party It Is, Jock #3, Exchange Student, Ready to Have Sex Girl and so forth. It actually makes it so there’s no need to learn anyone's name aside from the main six because they don’t have one.
This film is a ton of fun and has a lot of twists and turns that as a film today comes with some pretty predictable moments but for a 90s film with some outdated elements naturally, it still holds quite a lot of charm to it. Also let’s not forget this is the first time it’s one 4K UHD and as someone who dove into the special features and watched the theatrical trailer, this is a massive improvement in every way! For fans of 90s nostalgia, a good party film and a broad rolodex of personalities all in one picture - this is surely an experience to revisit or participate in for the first time.
