OUR COMEDY SPECIAL REVIEW:
Pure chaos is the best way to describe John Early: Now More Than Ever; the comedy transitions are hectic and the pacing is erratic but it’s purely original and unlike anything we’ve seen before when it comes to what we consider a “comedy special.” Audiences may be familiar with the comedian in his roles in films such as Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising and the first season of The Afterparty (Apple TV+), but his style of humor may have been a mystery… until now.
Comedy is subjective so I won’t dive deep into the jokes themselves but it’s in the way Early presents himself on stage that never ceases to amaze, with his boundless energy. His set is fast paced and appears to come from the top of his head at lightning speed, as his comedy is conveyed in a spontaneous and maniacal nature.
Around the standup, we get instances of scripted “behind the scenes” video and random breaks into songs. The songs aren’t overly comical but it’s in the timing that makes all the difference. Now More Than Ever covers a wide range of topics that all revolve around the man himself, John Early. It’s odd, extremely weird and needs to be seen to be truly believed.
